Hormones & Our Skin
Inextricably intertwined, your hormonal health has a profound impact on your skin.
Hormones influence the behavior and appearance of our skin; affecting the rate of collagen synthesis, skin texture, sebum production, and more. Inversely, our skin can also directly impact our hormonal health.
The skin is a receptor and effector of hormones, with its own connection to the hypothalamus gland - a part of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HA) axis, a neuroendocrine system that regulates hormonal and metabolic activity.
The hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis and treatment of inflammatory skin conditions including acne, rosacea, and dermatitis; as well as wound healing, skin aging, and more.
Endocrine-disrupting chemicals commonly found in pollutants and products can profoundly disrupt this delicate axis - and lead to irregularities in our hormonal health and the clarity and function of our skin.
At LESSE, we will always prioritize hormonal health and safety. Our formulations are free from over 70,000 questionable ingredients including known endocrine disruptors, added fragrances, dyes, and more.
