Paris, France

Paris, France

In the first installment of our new city guide series, LESSE Founder Neada shares her essential destinations for art and inspiration in the city of lights.

Paris, France
(1) MUSÉE RODIN

The beauty of this museum's galleries and grounds could only be eclipsed by the poignant work of Rodin. Known as the founder of modern sculpture, his figures convey the emotion of this remarkable city.

(2) VILLA LA ROCHE

Designed and built in the mid 1920s by Le Corbusier and his cousin Pierre Jeanneret, this former residence is a monument to modern architecture. It was where Le Corbusier first implemented all his five points of new architecture: the free plan, the free facade, the long windows, the rooftop garden, and the pillars which raised the home from the ground.

LESSE Paris City Guide Le Centre Pompidou

(3) CENTRE POMPIDOU

Whenever I visit Paris, I always find a few hours before a dinner or between appointments to walk the halls of Centre Pompidou. Their permanent collection is a canon of modern European painting, sculpture, and furniture design.

(4) MARCHÉ AUX PUCES DE PARIS SAINT-OUEN

This market is best known for its incredible archive of designer furniture, though there is still so much to offer for those traveling light. The idea is to get lost among the winding rows of stalls, where you'll come across a vendor selling vintage jewelry, fashion, or homewares.

(5) MAISON LOUIS CARRÉ

A little further afield, this Alvar Aalto-designed home is on the outskirts of Paris but worth the drive. The purity of this space will undoubtedly leave you inspired. I recommend booking a tour.
