Designed and built in the mid 1920s by Le Corbusier and his cousin Pierre Jeanneret, this former residence is a monument to modern architecture. It was where Le Corbusier first implemented all his five points of new architecture: the free plan, the free facade, the long windows, the rooftop garden, and the pillars which raised the home from the ground.
Whenever I visit Paris, I always find a few hours before a dinner or between appointments to walk the halls of Centre Pompidou. Their permanent collection is a canon of modern European painting, sculpture, and furniture design.
This market is best known for its incredible archive of designer furniture, though there is still so much to offer for those traveling light. The idea is to get lost among the winding rows of stalls, where you'll come across a vendor selling vintage jewelry, fashion, or homewares.
