CONSTANCE

My mother was the one who taught me about beauty rituals and how important it is to take care of your skin. The cleansing, moisturizing, masking is all from her. In the morning, I wash my face, apply Marie Veronique’s Balancing Hypo Tonic, some eye balm and follow with LESSE oil. I use 3 drops and it’s enough without me looking too dewy. I also started meditating this year and it’s been really helpful to keep me centered when things around me seem to be drifting off axis. I also started horseback riding every Wednesday morning and it’s been truly wonderful.

There’s something quite special about horses and to get to experience them through this sport is something I’m grateful that I can do. I believe beauty comes from within. There are so many women in my life that I know who are beautiful not just because they are physically beautiful, but because of the way they express themselves, the way they see the world, and their kindness. Beauty in this way becomes something that has roots and can be experienced and felt on a much deeper and more meaningful level. And, by extension, I feel most beautiful when I’m around people I genuinely love because I feel most like myself.

I just would love to see more diversity in who represents what beauty actually is. I think the industry is more aware of the lack of representation so to put that awareness into action is something I’m looking forward to seeing.

I feel that, as humans, we are born to tell stories. Just think of the way we use language to build relationships, to find meaning, to connect, to fall in love. There is an inherent way that we want to share these experience with others, to share our lives with others. I think the beauty in that is what inspired me to become a screenwriter and director. It’s honestly the first thing that’s brought me a sense of purpose and an ability to feel connected to a larger reality besides the one I inhabit on a physical level.

“There are so many women in my life that I know who are beautiful not just because they are physically beautiful, but because of the way they express themselves, the way they see the world, and their kindness.”

As time goes on, I want to do my part in remaining an active voice in the greater public life we as citizens participate in, and I hope to do that with my work and through activist means. After all, as a truly kind friend told me years ago –– and I’ll never forget it –– the grass is always greener where you water it.
